Spoon Lore:
1878 Olympian pattern by Tiffany & Co. is Victorian classicism at its most cinematic. Sterling silver made to feel like a fragment of an ancient world, lifted from a temple frieze and set at the table.
On this teaspoon, Diana (Artemis), goddess of the hunt, moves through the forest in hunt with her nymphs, until Pan appears, nymphs surging forward, Diana running at the lead, drapery and limbs frozen in flight. It’s not just a decorative cameo, it’s a narrative in miniature, carved to read in shallow relief like a classical bas-relief, with Tiffany’s hallmark crispness that lets shadow do half the storytelling.
That’s the quiet magic of Olympian: it isn’t merely “Greek-inspired.” It’s myth turned into touchable art, a small, gleaming legend you hold in your hand, where even a teaspoon carries the drama of gods in the woods and the breathless rush of the hunt.
This sterling spoon ring was made from the Olympian set design by Edward C Moore for Tiffany & Co. In 1878
How it feels on your hand:
Made from a substantial teaspoon, this ring sits wide and comfortable on the hand with a substantial weight and feel.
Available in sizes 9 -24. Fourth and half sizes available as well. This pattern was photographed in size 13
Please let me know what size you would like in the order notes. The spoon rings are not adjustable by hand. I size each ring before I ship out.
I love spoon jewelry. And I love hunting for the most beautiful spoons to make it! Spoon jewelry is a little wearable piece of history allowing the story and beauty of the pattern to be displayed and treasured, rather than being forgotten in a drawer or melted down as many of these antique beauties are.
All the pieces I make are from the original antique spoons - none are copies or casts - and I make each by hand, giving care and though to how each pattern is best shaped and displayed.
Using the original sterling silverware means each piece is not only beautiful in design, but full of indications that it has lived life. Maybe a faded monogram or little wear spots - I enjoy thinking about the places they have been and who might have held them 100 years ago. Each piece is, therefore, truly unique. I have discovered more than one of some of these spoon patterns, so each piece will come with its own character and story, varying slightly on little wear spots and marks - There will not be two that are exactly the same!
I hope the piece you choose resonates with your own story and will be a piece you treasure for generations.
