Spoon Lore

A sterling spoon ring made from the Love Disarmd patten designed by the Reed & Barton Co. in 1899.

Draped in a sheer gown, Venus her self lounges within the petals of a large poppy, Tiny Cupid gazing up at her side, love’s arrow in his hand.

Created by Master Designer, Charles Bennett in 1899, the Love Disarmed tells the story of Cupid’s disarming by his mother Venus, at the behest of the love-weary Gods of ancient Rome, a story inspired by Shakespearean sonnet 154.

Bennett designed what is said to be the most art nouveau silverware pattern ever made, and after 125 years, she is still one of the most sought after patterns among collectors

Each utensil in the set was originally finished by hand to preserve Bennetts design in sharp detail. With her extreme popularity, Attempts were made to reproduce Love Disarmed by casting in the 1930s and 70s but These reproductions were a far cry from the original, having lost much of the detail in the recasting process.

Only these older pieces captures the fine ripples in her gown, the soft expression in her eyes, and the veins in the poppy pedals which frame her face.

She is the quintessence of art nouveau aesthetic and a treasure among treasures.

Feel of the ring: medium feel, spiral spoon ring. A medium-feel statement piece. Comfortable on the hand and lots of wonderful raised detail on the top of the hand.

Sizing options: 5 to 14 - this is a spiral spoon ring, so smaller sizes will further overlap. The spiral, and larger sizes will unwrap the spiral.

*Please let me know what size you would like in the order notes. This ring is not adjustable by hand. I size to your desired size before I ship out. Larger sizes will unwrap the spiral, smaller size as will further overlap the spiral*

Metal: Sterling

Oh, If Spoons Could Talk

I love spoon rings. And I love hunting for the most beautiful spoons to make them! Spoon rings are a little wearable piece of history allowing the story to be shared and I love that these ornate beauties get to be enjoyed and not banished to some drawer, forgotten for decades.

All The rings I make are from the original antique spoons - none are copies or casts. So each ring is not only beautiful in design, but full of indications that it has lived life. Maybe a faded monogram or little wear spots - I enjoy thinking about the places they have been and who might have held them 100 years ago. Each ring is, therefore, truly unique. I have discovered more than one of some of these spoon patterns, so each ring will come with its own character and story, varying slightly on little wear spots and marks - There will not be two that are the same! I put care into the creation of each ring. I put thought into how the ring should best be shaped to frame and display the design of the spoon.

I hope the ring you choose will be a piece you treasure for generations.
