Lady of Chicago Sterling Spoon Bangle

$535.00

Spoon Lore:

This sterling Lady of Chicago spoon bangle was made from the Chicago Worlds Fair pattern designed by the Gorham Co in 1893

The Lady of Chicago is the embodiment of the city. Designed after the infamous fire of 1871 that almost leveled the entire city, the Lady of Chicago’s Crown reads “I Must” - a version of their motto “I will” - Which speaks to the city’s strength and resilience through any hardship. The sash that circles her waist reads ‘Chicago’, and she holds in her hand and orb and a scroll that reads ‘world fair 1893’. Beneath her feet lay the flames of the 1871 fire, from which a Phoenix is being reborn. Just as the city was reborn.

The Lady of Chicago is the rarest of the rare in the Lady Forge collection. She’s extremely difficult to find, and highly sought after among collectors. Truly a treasure. This is the first time she has been offered as wearable art. Transformed into a bangle that includes all the detail of her beautiful form. Matching necklace has been made from the Phoenix and the detail of the bowl

**Please let me know your wrist size in inches in the order notes*

How it feels on your hand:

Each Lady Forge Spoon Bangle is hand formed using the portion of the spoon handle or spoon bowl with the most design, and is paired with a hand-fabricated sterling silver band that forms the underside of the bracelet which opens and closes on one side. Therefore, the bracelet doesn’t feel too heavy or bulky, and should not rotate on the hand if correct wrist measurements are given (let me know in the order notes)

The bangle be opened and closed from one side, and each bangle is made to fit your wrist!

Oh, If Spoons Could Talk

I love spoon jewelry. And I love hunting for the most beautiful spoons to make it! Spoon jewelry is a little wearable piece of history allowing the story and beauty of the pattern to be displayed and treasured, rather than being forgotten in a drawer or melted down as many of these antique beauties are.

All the pieces I make are from the original antique spoons - none are copies or casts - and I make each by hand, giving care and though to how each pattern is best shaped and displayed.

Using the original sterling silverware means each piece is not only beautiful in design, but full of indications that it has lived life. Maybe a faded monogram or little wear spots - I enjoy thinking about the places they have been and who might have held them 100 years ago. Each piece is, therefore, truly unique.

I have discovered more than one of some of these spoon patterns, so each piece will come with its own character and story, varying slightly on little wear spots and marks from the photo in the listing - There will not be two that are exactly the same, each piece is truly unique.

I hope the piece you choose resonates with your own story and will be a piece you treasure for generations.
