This sterling spoon ring was made from the Art Nouveau Maiden pattern designed by Silverwarenfrabrik Posen Frankfurt Germany between 1880-1900. Silver with a light dusting of gold.
Created by Bruckmann & Söhne of Heilbronn between 1890–1910 and likely designed by the celebrated German artist Otto Rieth, this extraordinary silver spoon emerged during the height of Jugendstil, Germany’s deeply poetic interpretation of the Art Nouveau movement.
Unlike the floral excess of French Art Nouveau, Jugendstil often emphasized flowing linear forms, dreamlike feminine figures, and the unity of beauty with craftsmanship.
The sweet maiden deep in thought, framed within sweeping silver curves reflects Rieth’s architectural and sculptural style, where the human form seems to emerge organically from the metal itself.
Marked with the German crescent moon, crown, and 800 silver standard, this piece has now been transformed into a silver ring, soldered closed to add strength to this little treasure, preserving a small masterpiece of turn-of-the-century German design in wearable form.
How it feels on your hand:
Made from a small demitasse spoon, this ring is ultra dainty - light and comfortable on the hand. The nature of this design is thicker around the face and narrower along the rest of the handle, therefore this ring will be round with a flatter top
Available in size 3 to 9. Soldered closed for extra strength once ring is sized for you!
Please let me know what size you would like in the order notes. The spoon rings are not adjustable by hand. I size each ring before I ship out.
I love spoon jewelry. And I love hunting for the most beautiful spoons to make it! Spoon jewelry is a little wearable piece of history allowing the story and beauty of the pattern to be displayed and treasured, rather than being forgotten in a drawer or melted down as many of these antique beauties are.
All the pieces I make are from the original antique spoons - none are copies or casts - and I make each by hand, giving care and though to how each pattern is best shaped and displayed.
Using the original sterling silverware means each piece is not only beautiful in design, but full of indications that it has lived life. Maybe a faded monogram or little wear spots - I enjoy thinking about the places they have been and who might have held them 100 years ago. Each piece is, therefore, truly unique. I have discovered more than one of some of these spoon patterns, so each piece will come with its own character and story, varying slightly on little wear spots and marks - There will not be two that are exactly the same!
I hope the piece you choose resonates with your own story and will be a piece you treasure for generations.
